Mahr: an educational guide
Mahr is the marital gift agreed for the bride. A historical weight or today’s metal price cannot decide what your Mahr must be. Discuss consent, affordability, timing and local legal recognition with qualified advisers.

Historical references and scholarly differences
Mahr al-Fatimi is a historical description used in scholarly discussions, not an automatic amount owed by every bridegroom. Exact historical weights, the report intended by that label and modern gram equivalents require scholar verification before a numerical comparison is supplied. Do not treat a customary amount as a universal rule.
Hanafi and Maliki discussions include minimum-amount positions; Shafi‘i and Hanbali discussions are often described as having no fixed numerical minimum. These summaries and their precise conditions are pending scholar verification. No school-specific figure is prescribed here. Ask a scholar familiar with your school and circumstances.
Pending scholar verification
Qur’an 4:4 discusses the marital gift. Sahih Muslim 1425a reports an iron ring in a marriage discussion. Both are allow-listed and pending scholar verification; neither is used here to calculate a universal minimum.
Agree clear terms
Discuss the form of the gift, what is payable now, what is deferred, the due date or event, and how the terms are recorded. A metal-value estimate does not establish the religious or civil enforceability of the agreement. Do not enter anyone’s personal financial details here.

- Will this tell me the correct Mahr?
- No. The illustration multiplies a weight by a dated manual metal price. It does not produce a religious minimum, recommendation or ruling.
- Why are historic amounts not filled in?
- Historical reports, weights and school-specific conditions require scholar verification. This page does not replace that review with a guessed gram value.
- Is the estimate a live market price?
- No. The owner supplies a manual dated price in a stated currency. Check the date, purity and costs before relying on it for any purchase.
- Can Mahr terms be enforced in my country?
- That depends on the agreement and local law. Seek local legal advice; a religious agreement and civil enforceability are separate questions.
